Chairman's Message


We are very pleased to organize ‘The Second International Geographical Indications Summit’, one of the most rewarding organizations about creating economic value for traditional products, which are crucial for the development of Turkish economy.

In the First Summit, which was held in 2017, 42 speakers delivered informative speeches in 30 sessions, more than 200 local products were exhibited in the stands, 42 Chambers and Commodity Exchanges participated, and more than 15 thousand people attended and produced quite successful results .

Geographical Indications Summit, which have created public awareness about geographical indications, bring up the contribution of traditional products from across the country by transforming them into economic value to the development of Turkish economy and to the public agenda.

At the first Summit, the Capital City of Ankara, which located at the heart of Turkey, was thought to be a hub for exporting GI products from Turkey’s seven regions, from Kars to Uşak, from Kırklareli to Siirt. Ankara is considered as ‘Anatolia’s Gate to the World’ owing to Ankara Chamber of Commerce’s efforts and attention to the subject.

We aim to keep abreast of literature and trends in the world as well as to promote our local products and establish a cooperation platform for the commercialization of traditional products, with "From Anatolia to the World" motto in the Second International Summit.

In the line of this aim, the summit program will include conferences, “Geographical Indıcations Exhibition” and B2B meetings with domestic and foreign international purchasing committees. Summit training programs will also provide an opportunity to increase knowledge level and develop skills for participants.

The Second International Geographical Indications Summit is extensively important for Ankara Chamber of Commerce as the host organization of the event as well as an organization, which conducts studies about GI registration. As Ankara Chamber of Commerce, we are proud to have registered four very valuable products of our city, namely Ankara Simidi, Ankara Döneri, Ankara Tavası, and Erkeç Pastirması. We have also applied and carried out studies of Ankara Mohair as the fifth product.

It is stated that geographical indications have a market size exceeding $ 200 billion in the world. Turkey has a quite rich variety of local and traditional products. Promoting traditional products to world markets, flourishing manufacturing, increasing “added value” of Turkish GI’s are of great importance to ensure the sustainability of rural development.

We should put our hands together to build the future of our country on its own values.
